Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Chance Matchmaking, Inc. ("Chance," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "App"). This policy applies to all users of the App worldwide.

By creating an account or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy and agree to the collection and use of your information as described herein. This Privacy Policy is incorporated into and subject to our Terms and Conditions.

If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, do not use the App.

1. Who We Are

Company: Chance Matchmaking, Inc.

Contact: team@chancematchmaking.com

Jurisdiction: United States

Chance is a social matchmaking platform designed for college students. Because the App involves social interaction and matching, we may process information that is considered sensitive under certain privacy laws (see Section 10). We take that responsibility seriously.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Account Information: Name, username, email address, date of birth (to verify age), password, and profile details.
  • Profile Content: Photos, prompts, quiz responses, interests, and other information you choose to display on your profile.
  • User-Generated Content: Photos, videos, audio recordings, and text you send or share within the App, including in chats.
  • Friend Invite Phone Numbers: If you use our friend invite feature, you may enter a friend's phone number. That number is used solely to send a one-time SMS invitation on your behalf and is not stored for other purposes, used for marketing, or shared with third parties other than our SMS delivery provider (Twilio).
  • Communications with Us: Messages, feedback, support requests, and reports you send to our team.
  • Survey or Research Responses: If you participate in optional surveys or research, your responses may be collected.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: Device type, manufacturer, operating system version, app version, screen resolution, and unique device identifiers (such as IDFA or Android Advertising ID, subject to your device settings).
  • Usage Data: Features you use, screens you view, actions you take within the App, session duration, and timestamps.
  • Log Data: IP address, crash logs, error reports, and performance diagnostics.
  • Push Notification Tokens: If you enable push notifications, we collect a device token to deliver them. You can opt out of push notifications at any time through your device settings.
  • Firebase Analytics and Crash Reporting: We use Google Firebase to understand how users interact with the App and to identify crashes and bugs. Firebase may collect device identifiers, usage patterns, and crash data. We use this data solely to operate and improve the App — not for advertising or third-party targeting. Firebase's practices are governed by Google's Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

2.3 Inferred Information

Based on your profile answers, interactions, and usage patterns, we may infer interests or preferences to improve matching. As a dating and matchmaking app, we acknowledge that certain profile information — such as who you match with — may indirectly reveal sensitive characteristics such as sexual orientation or gender preferences. We treat all such inferences as sensitive personal information and do not share them with third parties for commercial purposes.

2.4 Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect precise real-time GPS location unless you explicitly enable a location-based feature.
  • We do not access your device contacts without your explicit permission.
  • We do not record audio or video without your explicit in-app action initiating a recording.
  • We do not use Meta Pixel, Google Ads, or any advertising SDK that tracks users for ad targeting or retargeting.
  • We do not collect Social Security numbers, government-issued ID numbers, or financial account information directly.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account and authenticate your identity
  • Provide core App functionality including matching, conversations, and games
  • Power our matching algorithm to suggest compatible users
  • Send user-initiated SMS invitations through Twilio on behalf of existing users
  • Deliver push notifications you have opted into
  • Monitor, analyze, and improve App performance and features (via Firebase)
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and policy violations
  • Respond to support requests, reports, and legal inquiries
  • Comply with applicable laws and regulations
  • Enforce our Terms and Conditions

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing or advertising purposes.

4. Automated Decision-Making and Matching

Our App uses automated processes to suggest potential matches based on information you provide, your preferences, and your in-app behavior. This automated matching is a core feature of the service. It does not produce legal effects or similarly significant decisions — you always choose whether to engage with any suggested match.

If you are located in the EEA or UK, you have the right to request human review of significant automated decisions that affect you. Contact us at team@chancematchmaking.com to exercise this right.

5. SMS Messaging

Chance uses Twilio, Inc. to deliver SMS messages through our friend invite feature. When an existing Chance user enters a friend's phone number, that friend receives a one-time SMS invitation. Message and data rates may apply. The recipient may reply STOP at any time to opt out of future messages from Chance.

Phone numbers submitted through the invite feature are transmitted securely to Twilio and are retained only as long as necessary to prevent duplicate messages. Phone numbers are never sold, rented, or shared with any party other than Twilio for delivery purposes.

Twilio's data practices are governed by Twilio's Privacy Policy available at twilio.com/legal/privacy.

6. User-Generated Content and Copyright

Users may upload photos, videos, audio, and text within the App. Content shared in chats is visible to the users you are matched or connected with. We do not claim ownership of your content.

You are solely responsible for ensuring that content you upload does not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or other rights. By uploading content, you represent and warrant that you own it or have all necessary rights to share it.

We reserve the right to review, remove, or restrict access to user-generated content that violates our Terms and Conditions or applicable law. Moderation may be automated, manual, or both.

7. DMCA and Copyright Complaints

Chance Matchmaking, Inc. respects intellectual property rights and complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). We have registered a designated DMCA agent with the U.S. Copyright Office. If you believe content in the App infringes your copyright, send a written notice to:

DMCA Agent: Chance Matchmaking, Inc.

Email: team@chancematchmaking.com

Your notice must include:

  • Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed
  • Identification of the infringing material and its location in the App
  • Your name, address, telephone number, and email address
  • A statement that you have a good faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
  • A statement under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf
  • Your physical or electronic signature

We will respond to valid DMCA notices by removing or disabling access to the allegedly infringing content and, where appropriate, terminating repeat infringers' accounts. If you believe content was removed in error, you may submit a counter-notice to the same address.

8. Sharing of Information

8.1 With Other Users

Profile information and conversation content are shared with users you interact with, consistent with your in-app privacy settings.

8.2 With Service Providers

We share limited information with trusted third-party service providers that help us operate the App, including:

  • Google Firebase (analytics, crash reporting, and authentication)
  • Twilio (SMS delivery for the friend invite feature)
  • Apple (payment processing for in-app purchases)
  • Cloud infrastructure and hosting providers

These providers are contractually required to protect your data and may only use it for the specific purposes for which it was shared.

8.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, regulation, or subpoena, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Chance, our users, or the public.

8.4 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via the App or email before your information becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.

8.5 Aggregated or De-Identified Data

We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you. We commit not to attempt to re-identify such data.

9. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. Specifically:

  • Account data is retained until you delete your account, after which it is deleted or anonymized within 30 days except where retention is required by law.
  • Chat messages and user-generated content are deleted or anonymized upon account deletion, subject to safety holds if required.
  • Invite phone numbers are retained only long enough to prevent duplicate messages, typically no more than 90 days.
  • Analytics and crash data retained by Firebase is subject to Firebase's own retention settings, which we configure for the minimum period necessary.
  • Safety-related records (such as reports and bans) may be retained longer to prevent abuse and for legal compliance.

10. Sensitive Personal Information

As a matchmaking and dating application, we may process information that qualifies as sensitive under applicable law, including inferences about sexual orientation or gender identity derived from your profile or matching activity. We process this information only to provide the core matching features of the App. We do not sell sensitive personal information and do not share it with third parties for commercial purposes.

California residents and EEA/UK users have additional rights with respect to sensitive personal information. See Sections 11 and 12 for details.

11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

  • Right to Know: You may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources, our purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
  • Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
  • Right to Correct: You may request correction of inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. No opt-out is required, but you may contact us to confirm.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: You may request that we limit use of your sensitive personal information to only what is necessary to provide the App.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise these rights, contact us at team@chancematchmaking.com. We will respond within 45 days. We do not respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals, as the App is a native mobile application; however, you may limit ad tracking through your device's privacy settings.

Note on Firebase Analytics: We use Firebase solely for internal operational purposes (app improvement). Under CCPA, sharing data with a service provider prohibited from using the data for its own purposes does not constitute a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information.

12. European Privacy Rights (GDPR / UK GDPR)

We currently serve users primarily in the United States. If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the following applies:

Legal Basis for Processing

  • Contract: Processing necessary to provide you with the App and its features.
  • Legitimate Interests: Analytics, fraud prevention, safety, and service improvement, where our interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Consent: Where we ask for your consent (e.g., push notifications, optional features). You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal Obligation: Where processing is required by applicable law.

Your Rights

  • Right of access to your personal data
  • Right to rectification of inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
  • Right to restriction of processing
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Rights related to automated decision-making and profiling
  • Right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority

International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may not provide the same level of data protection as your home country. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission to legitimize such transfers.

To exercise any GDPR rights, contact us at team@chancematchmaking.com. We will respond within 30 days.

13. Data Security

We implement reasonable and appropriate administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These include encryption in transit, access controls, and regular security reviews.

In the event of a data breach that poses a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Your Rights and Choices

14.1 Account Access and Updates

You may review and update your account information at any time within the App.

14.2 Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from App settings. Upon deletion, your profile becomes inaccessible, your messages and content are deleted or anonymized within 30 days, and active subscriptions are canceled subject to Apple's platform rules. Some data may be retained for legal, safety, or fraud prevention purposes.

14.3 Push Notifications

You can enable or disable push notifications at any time through your device settings.

14.4 SMS Opt-Out

If you received an SMS invite from Chance, reply STOP at any time to opt out of future messages.

14.5 Withdrawing Consent

Where we process your data based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. Specifically:

  • You may opt out of Firebase Analytics data collection by contacting us at team@chancematchmaking.com. We will configure your account to be excluded from analytics processing.
  • You may disable push notifications at any time in your device settings without deleting your account.
  • You may opt out of SMS messages by replying STOP.

Withdrawing consent does not require you to delete your account. Core App functionality will remain available even if you withdraw consent for optional data processing.

14.6 Advertising Identifiers

You may limit ad tracking through the privacy settings on your iOS or Android device. This may affect some analytics functionality.

14.7 Blocking and Reporting

You can block or report other users directly within the App at any time.

15. Payments and Subscriptions

  • Payments are processed by Apple through in-app purchases. We do not receive or store your full payment card information.
  • Your subscription status is associated with your account.
  • All payment disputes and refunds are handled in accordance with Apple's policies.

16. Children's Privacy and Age Rating

The App is intended solely for users 18 years of age or older. The App is rated 18+ on the Apple App Store. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a person under 18, we will delete it promptly. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at team@chancematchmaking.com.

17. Artificial Intelligence Features

If we introduce features that involve sharing your personal data with third-party artificial intelligence services, we will obtain your explicit consent before doing so and will update this Privacy Policy to identify the AI provider, the categories of data shared, and the purpose. You will always be able to decline such sharing without losing access to core App functionality.

18. Third-Party Links and Services

The App may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing any information to them.

19. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App, by email, or by other appropriate means at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the App after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. If you do not agree with the changes, you must stop using the App and may delete your account.
